Absolutely not! We’re looking for self-starters who are curious about technology and like working with diverse groups of people. Our students are driven problem solvers who enjoy being part of a collaborative tech community. All applicants with the right attitude and enthusiasm can have the potential to succeed.
Our courses are offered 100% online only to provide you with flexibility and the ability to self-pace your learning according to your schedule.
Our programs are 100% online with flexible schedules to accommodate our students. We give you the opportunity to shape your learning experience — attend class live or watch on-demand recordings. Weekly kickoffs, topic sessions, study halls, and Q&A sessions are not mandatory (although highly recommended). The hours you dedicate to your coursework depends on you! However, successful students should expect to commit to the following:
- Software Engineering: 30-40 hours/week
- UX Design: 20-25 hours/week
- Full-Stack Web Development: 30-40 hours/week
- Cybersecurity: 18-20 hours/week
Our UX Design, Full-Stack Web Development, Cybersecurity, and Python programs are 9 months. Our Software Engineering program is 12 months, broken down into Software Engineering Foundations (months 1-3) and Software Engineering Program (months 4-12).
All students should be able to pursue a tech education that helps them balance school, work, and life. Your schedule will be flexible with live classes, on-demand recordings, and optional sessions. Successful software engineering and web dev students should typically expect to commit to 30-40 hours per week to maximize the Kenzie learning experience.

Our programs aren’t easy, but they also aren’t out-of-reach for dedicated students. Our Academic team of subject matter experts, facilitators and coaches will guide you through the material and provide help along the way. Our Learner Services team also checks in with students to make sure they’re on the right track.
We strive to provide enough support to our students; however, your success depends on you! Don’t enter a Kenzie program lightly — but if you put in the work and take advantage of the resources we provide, you’ll set yourself up for great success.
These certificates are available to Kenzie students:
- UX Design Certificate (18 credit hours)
- Certificate in Python with Applied Blockchain (18 credit hours)
- Full-Stack Web Development Certificate (27 credit hours)
- Software Engineering – Backend Development Certificate (36 credit hours)
- Certificate in Cybersecurity (18 credit hours)
For UX design students, you will also develop an industry-ready portfolio showcasing compelling case studies and outlining your design process. Full-stack students will develop technical portfolios to share with employers and enhance their employability.
A full-stack software engineer/web developer works on both the frontend and backend of an app or website. Full-stack web developers will be comfortable with both frontend technologies such as HTML, CSS, and Javascript, which control the appearance of pages in the web browser, as well as at least one server-side language such as SQL. They’ll also effectively use relational databases.
Please see the tuition and financial aid page for a full breakdown of our tuition and payment options.

The Kenzie Academy program co-developed the Software Engineering program with Amazon Technical Academy (ATA) to provide anyone, regardless of their educational or professional background, with the opportunity to gain a tech education designed to prepare today’s software engineers. Together, Kenzie Academy and Amazon are striving to create a more diverse workforce that includes skilled individuals who are prepared and enthusiastic to innovate in the tech field, while building a long-term career path. Students will follow a project-based curriculum developed by Amazon software engineers — and although graduates aren’t guaranteed a job at Amazon, they will have career readiness to confidently pursue a job at Amazon or another big tech company or startup. The 12-month Software Engineering program serves as an educational gateway to make tech roles at Amazon and other employers more accessible to a wider and more diverse talent pool.
Please see our computer requirements guide for more information regarding the type of computer you should have for your Kenzie Academy program.
