When Moe Logins worked as a software account executive, he spent his days prospecting, negotiating, and closing the deal. If a sale needed to be made, Moe handled the entire operation. But, there was something missing from his career. He wanted to be an integral part of a tech team, much like the ones he often worked with. So, he decided to make a change by applying at Kenzie Academy. Now, just two years later, Moe stands before us as Senior Cloud Solution Architect at Microsoft.
Working With Tech Professionals Before Kenzie Academy
I got a chance to work closely with our tech team and I like to say that I kind of peeked my head around the curtain, behind the scenes, and I liked what I saw. I loved what they were doing more so than what I was doing.
Recognizing the Earning Potential
So, I got a chance to see even from a salary standpoint what they were making. And I was like, “Wow, this is incredible.” Not only do they have jobs that seem pretty cool, but also on top of that, they’re being compensated very well.
Factors When Considering a Career Change
I didn’t want to pay and go back to school for another four years. I didn’t want to have to get another degree. I also thought that it was just too late for me, I’m too far into my career to pivot. And so I literally just ignored that whole idea in general.
Starting at Kenzie
It was good. Honestly, I can confidently say I wouldn’t be where I am right now if I didn’t go through that experience. I loved the fact that it was challenging. No one really necessarily gave us anything. We kind of had to earn everything.
Supportive Environment
Obviously there was support there, there were people who check in and make sure that if you need anything to reach out. But other than that, you’re spending a lot of your own time… doing a lot of hands-on learning. So, that is literally what a student can expect they’re going to do in the field. Because that’s exactly how it is for me right now.
The Job Search with Kenzie
They held a resume class and I loved it because I’ve had years of experience with resumes, so I thought I had a decent resume, but it wasn’t very technical … They helped me draft up a good resume … and I had talking points I could touch on during the interview.
The Kenzie Community
People say Kenzie Fam, and it’s true because there are people who are still there and there are peers who have left that I still connect with. It has a family-like feel to it where you can reach out to somebody, and they’re going to help you as far as being supportive. I loved it and think it was great.
Advice for Anyone Considering Kenzie
Start now. Don’t wait … The support is there, the resources are there, and the tools are out there. Other than finding an excuse, there’s really no reason that anybody should be hesitant to get started … Be coachable. Be someone who is willing to have an open mind — and learn as much as you can.
Moe’s story is the perfect example of motivation, determination, and drive. His willingness to take a leap of faith and change careers is something Kenzie Academy truly admires.
