“My name is Suri. I used to be a Math Tutor, now I’m a Software Engineer.”
Suri Roy completed a bachelor’s degree in math in her home country of India and spent the majority of her early career working in education. She most enjoyed working with high school students and helping them reach their academic goals. Though she was fond of the work, she wanted a new challenge for herself and decided to make a career change.
“I started looking into the world of coding and web development a little bit on my own,” Suri said. “However, I soon realized it would be nice to have some support to help me get a better understanding of this field. So I started looking at coding schools and came across Kenzie. When I interviewed with Kenzie, I was right away impressed with the curriculum and the hands-on experience.”
Suri completed the Software Engineering program and worked as a Facilitator, combining her teaching skills and newfound technical knowledge.
“I have a lot of great Kenzie memories,” Suri said. “But the best one is the day I received my full stack Kenzie certification. That was a special day for me. There was a lot of hard work but I felt like I had achieved my dream.”
For Suri, who loves advancing her knowledgebase and being creative, learning to code was an incredible journey and also introduced her to an inspiring community of tech professionals.
“The thing that has excited me the most in my coding journey is that I can learn new things every day because the tech world is ever-changing,” Suri said. “I also enjoyed working with my colleagues and friends in group projects and working as a team. I was blessed to be surrounded by people who were always encouraging and always ready to help.”
“The MERN curriculum at Kenzie has immensely helped me prepare for this job,” Suri said.
